My best friend, Ashley, and I were talking the other day when she mentioned that she used to have the exact same ring I was wearing. While we talked about how we both loved this particular brand and ring she mentioned that she had to get rid of hers because it tarnished so quickly! I, on the other hand have had mine for years with no issues. That’s when it dawned on me that she probably wasn’t taking care of her jewelry the proper way! I explained to her that it just takes a few simple steps to prevent jewelry from tarnishing and I want to share these steps with you as well! Nobody wants to spend tons of money on jewelry only to find that it doesn’t last more than a few weeks! Here’s all the details on how I keep my jewelry in tip top shape!
Don’t Get It Wet
Moisture is the death of jewelry! I never ever EVER get my jewelry wet even when the company I buy it from says it’s allowed! Jewelry is tarnished from water and moisture in the air so make sure to keep your jewels dry at all times! I take my jewelry off every time I shower and I even go as far as taking my rings off every time I wash my hands. It’s not as much of an inconvenience as you would think!
Store It Properly
This is the most important step in my opinion! There needs to be as little air around your jewelry as possible to make it last. I store my jewelry in tiny ziplock bags that I snagged from Amazon. They come in three small sizes as you can see in the photos above. They’re super cheap and keep my jewelry dry. Once I figured out this was the correct way to store jewelry it’s been a game changer! Not one piece of jewelry has tarnished since I started using these ziplock bags to store my jewelry.
Get The Right Jewelry Box
This may be overkill but my personal preference is to also use a jewelry box with a lid that closes and keeps air out in addition to storing my jewelry in ziplock bags. I use jewelry boxes that I found on Amazon and I love them! As you can see in the photos above the top box has a lid and then I just stack that jewelry box on top of the others that don’t have a lid to help prevent moisture. Never use jewelry stands or dishes that expose your bracelets and necklaces to the air. They’re super cute but all your jewelry will tarnish ten times faster! Always make sure to also put your jewelry away once you take it off!
Now that you know how to properly care for your jewelry I wanted to share my favorite spots to shop at! Sometimes no matter how well you care for your jewelry there are just some brands that don’t make quality pieces. I wanted to share some of my favorite companies that I know sell good quality pieces! These are all places that I’ve personally bought from for years and have had the best experience with their products!
I LOVE this brand! I’ve bought from them for years! They have the cutest on trend jewelry and they last forever! They also have jewelry that you can engrave and that are specific to your birthstone. I literally wear at least one Gorjana product every day!
Kendra Scott has both regular and fine jewelry to choose from depending on your price point! I always purchase the regular jewelry because it’s so cute and still lasts forever! They’re best known for their jewelry garnished in dainty stones but they have a huge selection of pieces to choose from! My favorites are their rose quartz stone products!
The Styled Collection
My favorite thing about this brand is that they create jewelry that you can stack! I love the look of layered bracelets and necklaces and they have tons to choose from! Price point is perfect and very affordable!
Electric Picks has the CUTEST gold necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. They even have layering sets to choose from. You will definitely feel like a million bucks in their pieces! The best part is that all of their pieces come with a lifetime guarantee!
The Sis Kiss
Every single thing on The Sis Kiss site is so cute but my favorite thing about this brand is that they have the best custom pieces! They’ve thought of everything when it comes to personalized pieces from necklaces, bracelets, and even rings. These pieces are perfect for new brides that want to wear their new husband’s name around their neck or for mamas that want to wear their kids names or initials.
I hope this helps you all keep your jewelry last longer! Keep in mind that very fine jewelry is the exception and you don’t have to care for them as much as your regular every day accessories! I’ll link all my favorite pieces from each brand in my LIKEtoKNOW.it under Brianna Ramos so they are all in one place and easy to browse if you’re looking for some good quality pieces!
Hope you all have a great day!
