The Beginner’s Guide To Eating For Anti-Aging!

By now y’all know that I am all about skincare, working out, and anything else that will help keep me looking and feeling young! Besides a kickass skincare routine and getting daily exercise, eating specific foods can do wonders to help slow down the aging process. From reducing wrinkles to keeping skin supple to keeping the body healthy on the inside the big secret to the fountain of youth is food! More than any other self care routine we practice, the most effective in fighting aging is what we put in our body. Nothing is healthier than taking care of our bodies from the inside out. Antioxidants, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, and so many other vitamins are all great for anti-aging! Today I wanted to share the best foods for anti-aging as well as a few of my yummy recipes!

THE BEST ANTI-AGING FOODS

Red Bell Peppers

Red bell peppers are loaded with Vitamin C and antioxidants which are major factors that help fight against aging! They also help reduce inflammation which will do wonders for your body. I recently wrote a blog post about earthing/grounding which helps with inflammation as well. Definitely check it out if you struggle with inflammation. Studies show that the less inflammation we have in our bodies the healthier we are! In a nutshell, if we can cure the inflammation in our body we can cure many of our health issues!

Blueberries

Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins A and C! They are also a great fruit choice for those that are on lower carb diets or have auto-immune diseases. Fruits loaded with antioxidants are great for helping reduce sun damage and environmental factors which is huge for keeping skin looking young!

Broccoli

Broccoli is great for keeping skin looking plump because it is full of vitamin c which helps with collagen production! Broccoli also has it’s own antioxidants, vitamin K, and is a great source of fiber!

Nuts

The majority of nuts are packed with Vitamin E which is great for keeping the skin moisturized. Just like using a moisturizer on your face is important no matter what your skin type, eating foods packed with Vitamin E are the best way to moisturize your skin from the inside out! Nuts are also a great snack to keep you full longer!

Pomegranate

Pomegranates are full of antioxidants and vitamin c which helps protect our body from becoming inflamed and also helps protect against free radicals. Pomegranates are great for sprinkling on top of a salad or eating by themselves for a healthy snack!

Avocado

Avocados are a great source of potassium and are full of vitamin A which helps cell turnover. Cell turnover is the secret to having glowing, youthful looking skin! Avocados are perfect over a salad, protein, or throwing over some eggs in the morning for breakfast.

Spinach

The amount of anti-aging benefits from spinach are endless. Spinach contains large amounts of vitamins A, K, and C! The combination of vitamins in spinach are great for helping prevent inflammation in the body, produce collagen in the skin, and even helps grow healthy hair and nails!

Pineapples

Pineapples are great for helping produce collagen which again helps with skin elasticity and cell turnover. They’re also perfect for reducing sweet cravings!

Dark Chocolate

Yay! Finally something we can all agree on! Dark chocolate is great for protecting your skin from the damaging affects of the sun as well as helping promote blood flow to the skin. Just make sure you are eating dark chocolate and not milk chocolate to reap all the benefits!

Lemons and limes

Lemons and limes are packed with vitamin c which are great for skin elasticity! My favorite part about lemons and limes being great for anti-aging and the skin is that you can use them in cocktails! 🤣 I use lemons and limes for all my Keto cocktails to keep my drinks healthier and to reduce my processed sugar intake!

Oranges

Loaded with Vitamin C oranges are great for anti-aging both inside and outside of the body! Oranges are great for keeping the skin elastic and looking youthful as well as helping with maintaing a healthy immune system.

Carrots

Carrots are great because they are the perfect size snack for fighting off hunger between meals. They also contain cancer fighting properties and can not only prevent sun damage but can also reduce damage to the skin that is already present!!!

Watermelon

Watermelon is the perfect snack because you can eat it non-stop without any guilt! Since watermelon is composed of a large percentage of water and vitamins it’s a great fruit for helping reduce sunspots and UV damage from the sun.

Red Wine

By now you know that of course I couldn’t finish off this list without adding some kind of alcoholic beverage!! 🤪 The best thing about red wine is that it’s just as good for the inside of your body as well as the outside. Red wine is great for heart health, cholesterol, muscle mass, and has tons of antioxidants to help keep the skin glowing!

RECIPES

Here are three of my favorite recipes that I created myself using a few of the foods on this anti-aging list! One is a breakfast smoothie, one is a lunch or dinner option, and one is a cocktail because as we know I love cocktails! 🍸

Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie

This is one of my go-to recipes when I’m looking for a low carb breakfast packed with antioxidants!

Ingredients:

  • Half a cup of blueberries
  • Half a cup of strawberries
  • Half a cup of heavy whipping cream
  • One cup ice

Directions:

  • Pour all ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth

Enjoy!

Chicken and Veggies

I love this recipe and I love spices so I always add as much spice as possible. This recipe is not only super healthy and great for the skin but it’s also a great recipe for helping you slim down fast!

Ingredients:

  • 1lb of chicken
  • 1lb of broccoli
  • 2 organic red bell peppers
  • 2 organic yellow bell peppers
  • Spinach (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive or sesame oil

Directions:

  • Pour olive or sesame oil into pan and heat over medium heat
  • Cut chicken into bite sized pieces and cook over sesame or olive oil
  • Chop red bell peppers, yellow bell peppers, and broccoli
  • Once chicken is cooked through add all the veggies and cook for approximately 8-10 minutes
  • Add cumin, chili powder, and cayenne pepper and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

Keto Margarita

Margaritas are my favorite so you know that I had to create my own healthy version! These Margi’s taste just like the real thing without all the extra sugar!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup ice
  • 1-2 limes
  • 1 1/2 shots of tequila of choice
  • Margarita salt (optional)

Directions:

  • Salt rim of glass with margarita salt (optional)
  • Fill cup with ice
  • Squeeze half of a lime juice into glass. Note: I think it’s important to use fresh squeezed lime juice to give your drink the best flavor. Plus store bought lime juice tends to have tons of added sugar.
  • Add 1 1/2 shots of tequila
  • Squeeze juice of one lime into glass. You can squeeze more lime juice into drink as well if drink tastes too strong.
  • Stir to mix ingredients and garnish rim with lime slices
